From their perspective—from whatever hidden enclave or sanctuary they occupy—our expansion, our wars, our slash-and-burn ways must look like the mindless destruction of a primitive species. And so, the proposition arrives: “Will you abandon this city, and all that it contains?” Our way of life on Earth is anathema to them. But where exactly are we supposed to go?
